Assignment Configuration
This page goes over the various assignment configuration options. These options can be accessed from the "Grading Options" button in the grading view and the assignments page. These options are for tuning the AI grading so that you can get the best results. It is strongly recommended that you familiarize yourself with the various options so that grading can be accurate for your use case.
Assignment Instructions
This is the instructions students will see. If you have any instructions that you distribute to students, they should go here. Even for external assignments that are completed outside of HiTA, it is important to provide accurate instructions so that the AI understands what it is that students were asked to do.
Max Points
This is simply how many points are possible to earn for a given submission. If you are weighting grades independently of point values in your LMS, you may want to just use 100. Otherwise, if the weighting in final course grades is tied to point values, set it to the appropriate value. This is important for calculating grades and will affect the scores you export from HiTA.
Score Mode
The score mode affects how the AI calculates scores and what kind of feedback it generates. There are two score modes: either "positive" or "negative." Choose the score mode that aligns best with your grading style for the assignment.
Positive score mode has submissions start at 0 points and the AI will suggest items that increase it toward the maximum score you have set. This score mode is appropriate for essays and assignments with a rubric that starts at 0 and has increasing scores for better submissions.
Negative score mode has submissions start at the maximum score and the AI will detect mistakes and negative score values for each. This score mode is appropriate for worksheets and assignments where grading generally highlights mistakes.
Rubric File
Here you can upload any rubric or instructions for graders you might have. This will be shown to the AI when grading and will guide how it operates. If you would share it with human graders, share it with your AI assistant here.
Solution File
If you have an answer key, or a model of a perfect submission, upload it here. This will be shown to the AI along with the student submission for comparison. This is especially important for assignments with specialized technical knowledge. The AI does not have an advanced degree in mathematics or chemistry and may not know the right answers itself. Providing a solution file helps reduce the chances the AI will confuse a wrong answer for a right one or vice-versa.
Custom Instructions
Here you can provide instructions directly to the AI grader. If you notice the AI overlooking something, or making suggestions you don't agree with, try giving it some extra instructions here. The custom instructions are a powerful way to customize the AI grading and make your grading workflow as smooth as possible. Experiment with different instructions and observe the results.
